TD-SCDMA Update

- China Business News reported that Datang Mobile and Alcatel Shanghai Bell have jointly won a bid to expand China Netcom's TD-CDMA network in Qingdao, Shangdong Province. According to the same report, the team was awarded 50% of China Netcom's TD-SCDMA equipment orders, with ZTE securing the remaining half. Datang Mobile and Alcatel Shanghai Bell will provide core and radio equipment for the expansion project. Moreover, intelligent network and streaming media service platforms will be supplied by Alcatel Shanghai Bell as well.

- According to a China Business News report, China's MII (Ministry of Information Industry) and several TD-SCDMA Forum members, including Datang Mobile, ZTE, Spreadtrum, Commit, Potevio, and TD Tech, have finished the draft of a 3G mobile TV standard TDBM, based on China's homegrown TD-SCDMA technology. With related equipment and terminals ready for rollout, the TDBM standard is reportedly slated for release by the end of 2007. Commercialization is projected to start in 2008, in time for the Beijing Olympics.
